Spiritus: Obergefell v Hodges

On March 23, 2023 over the course of nine hours we read aloud the complete transcript of oral arguments, the majority decision, and three dissenting opinions from Obergefell v Hodges (the 2015 case that found a constitutional right to same-sex marriage.) As we read, we captured our breath in yellow bags, tied each one and suspended it from a single point, transforming the text into a physical volume of breath. The bags were left inflated for three hours before they were cut open, releasing our breath.
