Created as part of “50 States: Arkansas” which explores the history of a gay couple who lived in an opulent rail car on the Missouri & North Arkansas Railroad in the 1920s, this drawing is based on a photograph we took of one of two monumental stone piers that stand on the Buffalo National River; the only remaining sign of the M&NA Gilbert Rail Bridge. We used these piers as the primary visual metaphor for the men at the center of this history.
