We had three mainsails fabricated by Champion Sails in Long Island, New York, one of the longest continuously operating businesses in the United States. And we hand-dyed these sails with organic indigo, and used a motor-oil resist (indigo: the first cash crop of Louisiana and oil: the last, or at least the most current) to depict the “call numbers” of three spaces that played a surprising role in Louisiana queer history –
