Each chapter is illustrated with an image (derived from photographs we took) of what is currently standing in the historic location of gay and lesbian bars across the state of Texas. Unfixed, as it is, the piece is delicate, ephemeral, temporary and at the mercy of the wind; a fragile monument to an unheralded 19th century LGBT advocate, and to the many bars and nightclubs that nurtured Texas’s resilient queer community.
