Roughly seven decades later, doctor Stanley Biber began performing gender affirming surgeries out of the very same Catholic hospital, earning Trinidad, Colorado the moniker "Sex Change Capital of the World".
When we told our friend Sister Regina (a Franciscan nun in Trinidad) about Vosbaugh and that the Sisters of Charity had welcomed him (as a man) to San Rafael Hospital seventy years before Biber started his clinic, she chuckled and said, "Leave it to the Sisters . . . "
She continued, "Women religious have long held the belief that you should live your life as God intended you to, not how society thinks you should".
