Riggs wrote about trying to capture the "nostalgic glow" of pre-statehood Oklahoma, depicting a warmth and folksiness that, through the popularity of “Oklahoma!”, has become a foundational image of the middle of America. He wrote that his character explorations were meant "exhibit luminously, in the simplest of stories" the subtlety and beauty of the people he knew in his childhood.

By refracting our portraits we're attempting to approach this luminous celebration of the every-day lives of a wide array of extraordinary contemporary queer Oklahomans.
