Hand cut National Geographic map displayed in front of a 1 minute video loop on a 60" flat-screen TV monitor with custom frame.
The map is sandwiched between two pieces of glass so that it floats 1" proud of the TV monitor and the video is seen through the negative space in the map.
The video is original footage shot in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming, 40 miles away from Fremont Lake where William Drummond Stewart and his lover Antoine Clement frequently camped in the 1830s and 1840s. Their 1843 trip from St Louis to Fremont Lake was the focus of our installation 50 STATES: WYOMING.
